Pauls Place Charity Day Update

It gives me great pleasure to inform you that the combined event involving members of Pauls Place and the Bristol Walking and Hostelling group was a great success. 11 members from both groups enjoyed a 7 mile walk discovering local history around the Dramway, the route took in the Lockeeper pub then places of interest at the Avon wharf part of the Dramway. The walkers walked onto Bitton Railway station stopping for coffee. Then via the dramway the group walked to St Annes church records show that there was a church on this site in Saxon times. Leaving St annes we walked to Willsbridge Mill discovering the local history surrounding the mill. Whilst the walkers munched on their packed lunches Martin the group leader gave them an insite into the local history surrounding Willsbridge and the Queens Head Pub .

From the Queens Head pub we walked via the fields to Hanham Court and learned about Sally on the Barn a Tithe Barn and Hanham Court.

Onwards to The Chequers Pub at Hanham Mills and a well earned drink in the Lock and Weir pub. Walking along the river Avon banks to the Londonderry wharf to see more of the Dramway and returniing to the Lockeeper Pub with a brief history of the Frys Chocolate Factory.

The aims for the day were to walk and via donations and sponsorship to raise some cash for the Pauls Place charity.

The day was a great success and the outcome was to raise approx £850 cash for the Charity with Gift aid donations on top of this as well, the amount raised could well  a grand total of £1000. The final figure will be updated shortly.
